About Us
Established in 1992 by current Chairman Roger Weaire, Chelmer Foods began in the market town of Halstead in North Essex. The business now operates from its Head Office in Braintree, Essex, with an annual turnover in excess of £100 million.
We source Dried Fruit, Nuts, Seeds and Pulses from over 20 countries and supply to all industries. From cereal manufacturers, bakeries, snack food packers/processors, and food service suppliers.
Our unrivalled senior management experience, the strategic partnerships we have with our core suppliers and our detailed understanding of the needs of our customers remain central to our ongoing growth and development.
Our Founder & Chairman Roger Weaire
Roger started work at age 14 and cut his teeth as a “junior” for a City stockbroker. This gave him a taste for trading and dealing in commodities, and over the years he worked his way up. Shipping and trading internationally, especially in produce and dried fruit and nuts, gave him great experience in how a business worked.
In his late 40s, having spent over three decades working in the City as a trader and commodities broker, he was unemployed, with only a car and three months’ salary in his pocket.
But Roger grabbed the positive out of these unfortunate circumstances and decided that he no longer wanted to work for other people. He was going to use his knowledge and his contacts to set up his own business.
Roger Weaire founded Chelmer Foods in April 1992. On April 6th, the company started trading as an importer and distributor of dried fruits.
