Beans Market Update 13.08.26

Chinese dried bean markets continue to show mixed conditions, with mung beans remaining the tightest segment. Stocks are estimated to be around 40% lower than last year. Imports from Myanmar have declined by approximately 21% due to stricter pesticide residue regulations. Although this has created a supply shortage, weaker seasonal demand during the cooler summer months has limited upward pressure on prices. Mung beans are currently trading at $1,740/MT FOB, slightly lower than last month.

Adzuki beans are showing signs of recovery after reaching relatively low price levels earlier this year. A 28% reduction in planted area is expected for the 2026 crop, particularly in northeastern China. This is likely to tighten supply and provide support for prices later in 2026 and into 2027.

Red kidney beans remain supported by expectations of lower production in South America, fluctuating freight rates, and steady demand from the European food industry. Prices are expected to remain broadly stable with a slight upward trend. Current market levels are $1,590/MT FOB. Black kidney beans continue to benefit from solid demand in Japan, South Korea, and the EU, especially for premium grades used in plant-based and bakery products. While overall inventories remain adequate, supplies of higher-quality grades are still limited. Prices have eased slightly, with conventional black kidney beans currently trading at $1,120/MT FOB, around $50/MT lower than last month.

Overall, mung beans remain the main area of supply concern. Adzuki beans are gradually recovering, and red and black kidney beans continue to be supported by steady export demand.
