Chilean Prunes Market Update
The latest harvest commenced this week, however there is major concern after the central valley saw its biggest rainfall ever for January 2 weeks ago; this has been reported to have caused some damage.
The weather however is incredibly hot right now, therefore the fruit will be very challenging to dry. Many have never seen relative humidity so high, couple this with very unpredictable weather... there could be another storm any time soon. Consequently, there is a high level of uncertainty and anxiousness within the industry.
There was high hopes for the crop this year , because the amount in Chile is below normal, some areas have fewer fruit than initially expected, with an overall figure of at least 10% less.
