Dried apricots: weather as a decisive factor
Government urges caution
Apricot growers in Turkey continue to focus on the weather conditions. Heavy snowfall has delayed the flowering period, which usually starts in March, by at least three weeks, probably resulting in a later harvest. In the meantime, the weather conditions in the growing areas have improved and if the higher temperatures continue, the apricot trees will open their blossoms in April. This will also lead to the first cautious estimates of the 2022 crop. As the late start of the flowering phase ensures that the risk of frost damage is reduced, farmers are positive and hope for a good crop. However, the Turkish government has warned producers that heavy rains in April could also cause damage to the blossoms. (Mundus Agri)
