Pistachio Market Update - February 2022
The 2021 Iranian Pistachio crop was drastically affected by drought as many of us know. It has been estimated that around 135,0000 Metric Tons (35% of the total predicted crop yield) has been damaged. This will no doubt in time have a knock on effect with pricing in due course. Many believe that this is a clear indication of climate change in the Iranian growing regions.
At present, Pistachio crop is comprised of yield from 520,000 hectares from 28 provinces. This goes to show that Iran still has a good stock holding to meet demand despite drought effects on crop. Iranian Pistachios have a distinct taste, which has always led to their demand exceeding 2 million metric tons per annum, while the supply lags behind at around 600,000 metric tons.
