Turkish Figs Report 22.05.26 industry market report

As of the second week of May 2026, global exports of the 2025 dried fig crop reached approximately 44.6 thousand metric tons, reflecting an 11.2% decrease year-over-year compared to 49.6 thousand metric tons exported during the same period of the 2024 crop season. This decline highlights a tightening supply environment within the international dried fig market, influenced largely by stricter quality control measures and changing export dynamics.

Rising Dried Fig Export Prices in 2026

Despite the drop in export volumes, the average dried fig export price has shown resilience. Prices increased to $7,092 per metric ton, marking a 4% rise from the previous crop’s average of $6,819 per metric ton. This upward trend reflects continued strong demand for high-quality dried figs, particularly in premium import markets across Europe and beyond.

Increased Quality Controls Impacting Supply

The global dried fig trade remains cautious, with a heightened emphasis on product safety and quality compliance. Following a series of European Union rejections due to Ochratoxin A contamination, exporters have adopted more rigorous sourcing practices and shipment screening processes. Key changes across the dried fig supply chain include:

  • Stricter quality assurance protocols
  • Enhanced testing for mycotoxins, particularly Ochratoxin A
  • More selective procurement of raw figs
  • Improved traceability and export compliance measures

These adjustments have led to better-controlled supply flows, minimising the risk of shipment rejections and protecting exporter reputations in sensitive markets like the EU.

Strong Demand for Premium-Grade Dried Figs

While overall volumes are lower, demand for compliant high-grade dried figs remains robust. Buyers are increasingly prioritising certified-safe products, premium quality with consistent grading, and suppliers with reliable compliance records. As a result, premium-grade dried figs continue to command higher prices, supported by limited availability and sustained international demand.

While dried fig export volumes have declined in 2026, the market remains supported by firm prices and strong demand for high-quality figs. Exporters are adapting to stricter regulations and quality expectations, which is reshaping supply dynamics and reinforcing the importance of compliance, traceability, and product excellence in the global dried fig industry.
