Vine Fruit Market Report 18.05.26
Turkish Dried Grape Exports Decline Despite Increased Early-Season Supply
Although supply rose at the start of the season, Turkish dried grape exports have declined significantly. By the second week of May 2026, total exports from the 2025 crop reached 99.4 thousand metric tons, marking a 14.6% decrease compared to 114.0 thousand metric tons recorded during the same period in 2024.
Falling Export Prices Add Pressure
The average export price for Turkish dried grapes dropped to $3,042 per metric ton, down from $3,567 per mt in the previous crop year. On a weekly basis, prices showed a sharper decline, falling to $3,043 from $3,572 in the same week last year. The top export destinations for Turkish sultanas remain highly concentrated, with the top 10 countries accounting for 83% of total export volume. The leading importers continue to be:
- United Kingdom
- Netherlands
- Germany
- Italy
- France
However, export volumes to these key markets have declined by 7-17%, reflecting broader market challenges.
Turkish Dried Grape Market Outlook: Stable but Cautious
Market Activity and Demand Trends
As of May 2026, the Turkish dried grape market has maintained stable trading activity compared to the previous month, with moderate transaction volumes. Both producers and exporters remain cautious, but steady demand from key European markets continues to support a balanced market outlook.
Positive Crop Development and Seasonal Conditions
Following the end of frost risk, the outlook for the Turkish seedless sultana crop remains positive and stable. Vineyards have benefited from favourable winter conditions, supporting healthy vine growth and development.
Although it’s still early to provide definitive crop estimates, current vineyard indicators suggest a promising production season, with expectations for average yield and good quality. Provided there are no extreme weather events or disease outbreaks, the 2026 harvest is expected to align with typical seasonal averages.
Supply Dynamics and Pricing Factors
Some producers have begun releasing stocks earlier than usual, influenced by market expectations and potential pricing pressure. Despite this, raw material availability remains controlled, while limited supply in certain quality segments continues to support price levels.
External factors continue to shape the market, including:
- Rising energy and transportation costs
- Exchange rate volatility
- High financing costs for exporters
Overall, the Turkish dried grape market in 2026 presents a cautiously stable outlook. While exports and prices have declined, stable demand, positive crop conditions, and controlled supply are supporting the market. Industry participants will continue to closely monitor weather developments, vineyard growth stages and global market conditions as the new crop progresses.
